Stand Up for Healthcare…Again

ACA Repeal Returns in the Midst of Hurricanes, DACA Shutdown, Debt Ceiling and Data Breach.

These times demand our full attention. Let’s be vigilant. #EngageConnectEmpower

From Daily Action: Call your Senators at (844) 241-1141 and speak out against the latest ACA repeal effort – the Graham-Cassidy bill that these two Senators (Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana) promised to introduce today.

Help a Refugee Family in Nashville

This weekend in Nashville, a refugee family of 10 lost everything to a fire. Please consider donating supplies or gift cards to help them get back on their feet.

You can send donations and gift cards to:

Legacy Mission Village Attn: Kathy Edson PO Box 2984 Brentwood, TN 37024

Or bring items to their office: Legacy Mission Village 5123 Nolensville Road Nashville, TN 37211

Legacy Mission Village is a non-profit  whose mission is to empower legal refugees to adapt to a new culture, by feeding the hungry, giving care and counsel to the sick, and providing education and training to those in need.

Take 60 seconds and call your Member of Congress at (844) 241-1141 to ask that they take a public stand defending the Dreamers. After falsely claiming that he would treat the Dreamers “with heart,” Donald Trump has done exactly the opposite in his decision to end DACA.  For more background on DACA, check out the Get Smart video on this topic before you make your call.

Defend DACA has smart ways to #EngageConnectEmpower in protecting DACA and immigrant youth.

Extremist Republicans have threatened to sue if Trump doesn’t kill DACA by September 5th. Over 1,000,000 people are covered under DACA and TPS. These programs enable people to work, go to school, provide for their families, be protected from deportation and gives many peace of mind.

March for DACA and The Dream Act

The president has said he will make an announcement about the future of DACA on Tuesday, September 5th. Pressure is mounting for him to defend DACA, but we need to keep on it!

After months of pressure from undocumented you, Tennessee’s Attorney General Herbert Slatery made a decision to take Tennessee off of the lawsuit against DACA, and he urged our senators to support the Dream Act.

Protect Bears Ear and Other Public Lands

“The national monuments under review are a critical part of our national heritage and these lands belong not just to us, but to future generations.  We stand with the millions of Americans who spoke out in support of keeping protections in place for public lands. We hope Secretary Zinke will remember his roots and his words and protect these ‘national treasures.”

— Rose Marcario, CEO, Patagonia

This week for the first time in its 45-year history, Patagonia released a television ad.

Help Hurricane Harvey Victims

Consider donating to Coalition for the Homeless of Houston, which is doing tremendous work to help those displaced by the storm.

While there are plenty of national organizations helping with the relief effort, groups with strong ties to the local community are most effective at the ground level. Coalition for the Homeless of Houston has a 4/4 rating on Charity Navigator.

“A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand”

Today’s Daily Action is to call your Rep at (844) 241-1141. If they are a Democrat, ask them to (1) vote against any measures that fund Donald Trump’s border wall and (2) if they haven’t already, to co-sponsor the resolution to censure the President for his Charlottesville remarks.

If they’re a Republican, ask them (1) when the Republicans are releasing their tax plan and (2) whether the benefits are going to fall to the middle class or skew to the 1%.

Women’s March From NRA 2 DOJ

Recent actions of the NRA demonstrate not only a disregard for the lives of black and brown people in America, but appear to be a direct endorsement of violence against people exercising the constitutional right to protest. In addition to the inaction of the NRA on behalf of Philando Castile, the organization recently released this incendiary video ad that unashamedly peddles an “us versus them” narrative and calls for our grassroots, nonviolent resistance movement to be met with violence.
