Right now in America, we stand a country divided — and this moment of anxiety and divisiveness calls for a new approach to maintaining a healthy, active citizenry. In a country held together not by race or religion, but by a common creed, how do we maintain any sense of national cohesion? And how do we convert our ideals into action? These are the questions that we confront and answer with Civic Saturday.

Join us for Civic Saturday, a civic analogue to church started by our friends at Citizen University, a gathering of friends and strangers in a common place to nurture a spirit of shared purpose. It is not about a particular faith tradition; rather, it is about American civic religion: the values and practices of being a contributing member of civic life in the United States. The goal of Civic Saturdays is to give participants the tools, inspiration, moral grounding, and opportunity to engage powerfully as citizens.

We gather friends and strangers in a common place to nurture a spirit of shared civic purpose and humanity. We empower participants to make sense of the moral questions they face as citizens and change-makers – and to develop the capacity to act with character in the collective. We aim to build a community rooted in local culture but inclusive of unfamiliar perspectives, centering on an affirmative framework of civic values, and weaving together the many stories and passions of our congregants in ways that activate empathy and responsibility.

We’re so excited to host Civic Saturday Nashville at Casa Azafrán Saturday, October 27 with our featured musical guest, Stephanie Urbina Jones, and spoken word poet Monserrat Escobar of Southern Word! Coffee courtesy of Barista Parlor and snacks from Proper Bagel!
