We’re calling on all supporters to stand up for Laura and all the women at Hutto Detention Center in Commissioners Court! We will keep showing up as long as Commissioners continue to ignore this pressing issue. If you have visited, or even heard what she and the other women have gone through in your circles or in the press, you bear witness. We need you.

Laura is a victim of prolonged sexual abuse at the hands of a guard. In February, she spent 60 hours in solitary confinement, where she was told she would remain indefintely if she did not recant her testimony of sexaul assault. She’s tried to commit suicide under the pressure of confinement & retaliation, and remains very sick. She is not the only survivor who has come forward.

The Williamson County Commissioners hold oversight over Laura’s welfare and what’s happening at this abusive detention center, but they’re doing everything possible to duck that responsibility. Even after 3 weeks of community members sharing their eye-witness testimony of Laura’s fear and suffering – and after countless accounts of other women’s abuse inside Hutto – they refuse to discuss this issue formally. They are hoping the problem will go away. We won’t let them silence us!

Similar cases of wrongful death by suicide and medical neglect have cost other counties millions of dollars in lawsuits. As a party to the contract Williamson County is liable for what happens inside Hutto.

Justice is not serving Laura. Her asylum case was just denied, and she faces imminent deportation back to life-threatening circumstances. Her physical and mental health in Hutto remain in a crisis state. Every day she remains detained is a threat to her life. How many other women at Hutto have suffered the same in silence?

Please come out. Show up. Stand strong.
